If there are no available trial lesson times or if you have a question about trial lessons, please contact us.

The trial lesson is an opportunity for student and teacher to meet one another to determine if they are compatible with one another, without any long-term commitment. Parents are welcome to accompany children. If a longer lesson length is desired, that can be arranged after the initial 30-minute session.

Greg Hays began taking guitar lessons when he was seven years old and has been dedicated to music ever since. A recent graduate of Frostburg State University with a Music Performance degree studying under Patrick Sise, he now studies with world-renowned guitarist Julian Gray at the Peabody Institute, where he is pursuing a degree in Music Performance/Pedagogy.

A Bel Air native, Mr. Hays saw his musical ambitions grow during high school when he was able to participate in jazz bands, symphonic bands, marching bands, percussion ensembles, and many other chamber groups. It was in college that he refined his skills and began classical training which led to a deep appreciation for classical repertoire. Mr. Hays frequently arranges and orchestrates works for solo guitar, guitar duo, and other small chamber groups. Proficient in many styles such as jazz, classical, blues, and pop, he encourages his students to diversify their tastes.

Mr. Hays believes that taking music lessons is a great pathway to learning many transferable skills and can be enriching for any skill level. He puts an emphasis on finding ways to enjoy practice, as well as creating plans for the success of the player. After taking music lessons for over ten years himself, Mr. Hays has a comprehensive awareness of methods that are effective in learning the guitar.

A frequent performer, Mr. Hays formed the EastWest Guitar Duo with guitarist Paul Zimmerman in the Fall of 2017. The duo gave their premiere concert in February 2018 and performed at a variety of functions around western Maryland. In April 2018, the duo was chosen to perform in the Frostburg State University President’s Concert, an event that honored the university’s founding. Mr. Hays has performed in and observed master classes with Colin David, Jason Vieaux, David Russell, and Petra Poláćková among others.
